In 2009, I completed 36 hours of advanced study in Chiropractic Pediatrics from Palmer College of Chiropractic. This training involved care during pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and all stages of a child's development. During pregnancy, women have special chiropractic considerations.
During my pregnancy I experienced a lot of new aches and pains. When I was about 36 weeks pregnant I injured my low back to the point I even had difficulty getting in and out of bed because of my low back pain. Chiropractic care helped get me out of pain so I could focus on preparing for the birth of my son.
Many women experience headaches midback, low back, round ligament and hand pain. These are caused by the woman's changing body preparing for birth. There are very large shifts in weight distribution which changes the woman's posture, gait and even breathing. During pregnancy your body produces a hormone called relaxin. This causes the ligaments in your body to relax in order to make room for the growing baby and it's journey into the world. Unfortunately for the woman, this also reduces the joint's integrity and can lead to easy injury of ligaments. Water retention is another side effect of pregnancy that can cause swelling in areas like the carpal tunnel and cause tingling, numbness or even pain.
Just because you are pregnant doesn't mean you should live with musculoskeletal pain. My goal is to provide you with chiropractic care, the most safe and effective treatment for musculoskeletal pain during pregnancy, making you as comfortable as possible.
